The practice
Evan Morris
Exciting Light was founded in Amsterdam in 2012 as Spannend Licht. Its theatrical design portfolio spans twenty-five years of continually running shows in New York City, at Harvard University and in London’s West End, and tours in several countries.
In Amsterdam it was part of the renovation of the Shell Tower into the Sir Adam Hotel and Butcher Social Club, and of Do Not Disturb on Dam Square — as the Mad Fox Club, Best Club Venue at the 2017 Entree Awards and the room behind the LIT Lighting Designer of the Year award, 2018.
The practice works from lighting layouts through 3D modelling, animated previews and virtual-reality walk-throughs to fully programmed, automated venues — and to the live lighting where the room feels it.
Today the work is primarily film and television. The venues are where it was learned.
